The Call to Discipleship
Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This call to discipleship is not limited to just a select few individuals, but rather it is a call to all Christians. As followers of Christ, we are called to go out and make disciples of all nations, sharing the gospel message and baptizing new believers. We are also called to teach these new disciples to obey everything that Jesus has commanded us.
Other verses that support this call to discipleship include:
- Mark 16:15 – “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'”
- Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
- 2 Timothy 2:2 – “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
These verses all emphasize the importance of sharing the gospel message and making disciples of all nations. As Christians, we have been given a great commission by Christ himself, and we must take this call to discipleship seriously. May we be faithful in fulfilling this call and making disciples of all nations.
